I adore this book for what it is and what it stands for I am obviously impartial as I have visited Africa in my twenties specifically to see wild elephants because they are nature s most precious animal to me and their whole being and behavior fascinates me I really just can t get enough This is Lawrence Anthony s story of tending to a herd of troublesome elephants on his reserve in Thula Thula in South Africa The short chapters move the story pretty quickly but by the second half after the hubb [...]

This book was recommended to me by my parents who lived for 18 months near this preserve and visited I t They loved the area and that certainly colored my early excitement for this book, since I usually do not gravitate toward animal books The elephants were fascinating and Lawrence and his wife are true heroes.

a wonderful account of day to day life in wildlife management, and the behavior of elephants and their relationship with humans and each other I am saddened to learn that the author, who felt so much empathy with the animals and risked his life several times to protect them from both poachers and legal dealers buyers, has passed away.

A beautiful book, as far as ideology regarding all living things and especially with the author s love of Elephants But, not especially well written, and for me information regarding the care and feeding of Elephants than I ever wanted to know Tedious most of the time and were it not for a Book Club selection I would have quit and not read the beautiful last chapter.

Rogue elephants What do you do with them Well, you either kill them or you call the elephant whisperer and hope he can work his magic on them so they don t have to die This was the case in 1999 for Lawrence Anthony who was living and working on a reserve in South Africa He was the elephant whisperer in question and was given just one chance to save the lives of 9 elephants that would otherwise be shot and killed.A touching memoir about fascinating animals, their interactions with each other and [...]
